K-SPACE is compared against repair cafes. Work out a strategy (more details and ideas in 2024-01-11 Arti DM). 24/7 and basic amenities: heating (luxury), flowing water and WC and coffee and dishes, paying bills, security(* mostly shared), storage(* not unlimited pahnahunnik), WiFi, hosting. Splendid-looking coworking space for events, other rooms usually get the woah-effect from guests as well. Inventoried (to be one) parts, ctrl-f the whole floor for self-help. Thursdays help is available.

cc #128: With a reformed presence, it might be helpful to, like a standard business:

  1. Outline physical stuff, and soft areas of activity
  2. Assess the level of common expertise in each
  3. Pick the ones (pillars) to focus on, for investment, standing (the place for x), and years-to-compete (if 3rd party would compete, how much money, institutional knowledge, and time they'd need)
  4. Perhaps already while picking, form them in to a somewhat cohesive 2-paragraph statement.
  5. What are the opportunities for having the named pillars in the same place? Think also cashflow.

Non-pillars don't need to be trashed. Right now, the image is something slammed together, while in reality there have been noteworthy periods (with lasting results).

I'm guessing some of the pillars may be:

  • Server room: hosting, experimenting1
  • Manufacturing: electronics (non-woodworking), CAD
  • Debugging (and building): equipment (tools, people), spare parts
  • Event space: rooms (what about unaffiliated members during the event), media (streamlined borrowing pls)

I think 'field day' ("I have set thing and time") capability still needs improvement:

  • Space — not work, not home, the third: amenities are actually pretty good
  • Equipment (what is, at quality, expensive/roomy/oneoff to have at home): cleaning up and maintenance
  • Expertise ("ask Arti"): getting others to be available (best on Chaostreff off-hours), and building sense of ownership (as in the past with specific individuals in the workshop) — resulting in improving the space (tasks in k-space.ee/todo).

While greenlighting is supposedly minimal effort, the go-aheads have become unreasonably prohibitive — encouraging not asking, and demolishing context/motivation with 3d-2w replies.

  1. K-SPACE infrastructure is today still a limbo where nobody wants to maintain it, and everyone want to abuse / add to it. ↩︎
