Capture the not-compatible-with-win11 people, who just got said their good computer is no good for a pseudo-reason. The crowd is likely at least somewhat compatible with current / upcoming k-s market positioning. it's a good way to keep people coming, which can be turned in to memberships.

  • To what distro? Ubuntu can be a lot at once, and it pushes a dumb thing like snaps every 2 years. It is the only 'officially supported' by id.ee, yet they do keep the upstream compatible with others, especially Debian-based.
  • Can it be a paid workshop to cover at least the food?
    • Possibly an install USB the user keeps.
    • Ready 500G HDD 2,5" drives with usb3-sata adapter for quick backups the user may
    • No warranty, only initial install, everything else is voluntary.
    • It might be smart to borrow/buy-return stock of RAM upgrades for DDR4 and DDR3L SO-DIMMS: 8G and/or 16G.

60m-90m
0. Intro, agenda

  1. Backups / drive swaps, planning.
  • Image-based backup, possibly Backblaze?
  • File-backup to external disk may leave a bad taste on recovery to Windows ('all my apps are gone').
  1. Possibly use time to cover Gnome UI while we wait.

30m-45m
2. Booting Live ISO
3. Installer (codecs!)
4. Walkthrough of Gnome (or other DE??? MATE, possibly on Linux Mint?). File browser.

15m-30m
5. Start file restore / transfer.
6. Installing apps, walkthrough. Chromium, LibreOffice tabbed view.

60m-90m
7. Regular backups to the internet. Offering backing up to K-SPACE subscription sounds like a very dumb idea, mainekahju 101.
8. Misc configuration

4-5h event with spillage room to 6h. Hardware prep 2h + ordering. Food prep 1-2h. Slides/demo prep 4h(+), Marketing 2h-3h.
